Lyme Regis is probably best known for the Cobb, a protective harbour wall built during the early years of the port. It provides an artificial harbour and a protective breakwater to shelter the town from storms. On a calm day you can walk along the Cobb. The Cobb has been used for several films including The French Lieutenant's Woman. Jane Austen, an English novelist, spent a fair bit of time in Lyme Regis, one summer she wrote part of “Persuasion” during her stay. The gardens at the top of the town just off Pound Street are well kept by the town council, if you wander through them it brings you more or less on to the seafront, there are also the Jane Austen gardens to visit. Wander over the harbour wall on to Monmouth Beach where you will find a super sandy and pebble beach. Lyme Regis Museum is full of local history, geology and fossil displays on show in a purpose-built Victorian building. If you have time take a Fossil Walk, there are 3 hour walks available. Parking Holmbush car park, 5 designated motorhome spaces
